Chaplin indteractive network of multi-media applications

Objective

The final goal of the Chaplin Interactive Network of Multimedia Applications aims to create an international network of Edutainment Centres.

In this preliminary phase, the feasibility of a technical solution for an electronic cinema will be demonstrated. At the premises of Barco a demo theatre will be built. This theatre will integrate low-end videoprojectors, a surround sound audio installation and a satellite receiver integrated in the mediaspot box. The aim is to demonstrate that at affordable cost a medium sized theatre can be turned into an electronic cinema. A trade-off between quality and cost that satisfies the need of the end-users will be investigated. However it will also be demonstrated which future developments on videoprojectors, audio systems and mediaspot box are necessary to make the complete business model work.
The end users will also make a preliminary market research on the concept of an edutainment centre. The idea is that existing cinemas can be turned into edutainment centres and later on in electronic theatres. The market study will clearly outline the difference of a protitable and a non-profitable goal as a function of the needs of education, formation, entertainment, social objectives, etc.
