Objetivo
The project examines country-level determinants of gaps in practical political knowledge essential for effective citizen participation.
It seeks to develop new methods to determine and monitor cross-national differences across Europe in the opportunities for the development of high levels of practical political knowledge among members of specific disadvantaged social groups. It analyses how knowledge-based inequalities shape political attitude formation across different European societies.
The project aims at advancing theories and knowledge about media systems as well as the impact of policies promoting gender equality and the social inclusion of disabled people. Thus, it can help identifying possible policy tools that can assist reducing knowledge-based gaps in political involvement and attitude formation, especially among women and disabled people.
The project has a strong emphasis on developing statistical methods and software of relevance across all social science disciplines, especially with respect to the estimation of interactive effects of political knowledge effects on political attitudes and voting behaviour and the treatment of missing values in large-scale data sets.
