Objective
The objective of RELOOP is to deliver an integrated tool and methodology aimed at optimising and planning take-back logistics (TBL) supply-chains and routes simultaneously with respect to the cost of TBL, the environmental impact of TBL, a product's recycling strategy, and today's as well as the future's legislative constraints.
RELOOP, therefore, aims,
- To provide an integrated trading environment for logistics, recycling and manufacturing companies;
- To provide operational support for TBL and recycling transaction on the administrative side through predefined forms and procedures;
- To make the results available as a on a Global Engineering Network (GEN) for the required instant update of the information database;
- To employ a Geographic Information System (GIS), an emerging technology for numerous geographically related applications, for visualisation and user friendliness;
- To provide multi-user and multi-site capability to simultaneously support the entire TBL supply- chain, consisting of manufacturing, collection, logistics and recycling;
- To support TBL supply-chain companies to plan TBL optimal locations of new sites;
- To provide guidelines to optimise product design with respect to an optimised TBL;
- To cover a most comprehensive European network of road, rail, water and airways;
- To provide solutions for the urgent electronics products sector based on a generic approach in order to allow adaptations to other product types.
An initial study will provide examples of best practice from European companies successfully operating take-back activities of electronic goods. The entire recycling and TBL chain will benefit in terms of increased business at reduced cost and environmental impact. The RELOOP tool will improve the logistic chains from the last end-users of the products, or collection centres, to the most optimal disassembly and recycling locations, considering trade-offs between ecological impact, cost, legislation and product design or recycling strategy. RELOOP will give guidelines to optimise product design, aiming at a particular TBL/recycling strategy scenario.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
