Acoustic and thermal instrumentation, tests and modelling of engine surface coolers in representative aerodynamic conditions

Objective

The present proposal addresses the acoustic and thermal instrumentation, tests and modelling of engine surface coolers in representative aerodynamic conditions. In addition to aerodynamic tests already performed on surface coolers in a regional funded project, complementary tests have to be conducted to characterize these equipments from a thermal and acoustic point of view. The concerned Air Cooled Oil Cooler thermal characterization will be performed in a high speed wind tunnel, especially adapted in order to host this device and to retrieve take-off engine-like conditions. The main expected results are the quantification of heat extraction and the surface temperature maps of the heat exchanger. The contribution to the acoustic investigation is principally focused a detailed analysis of the measurements.
