Final Report Summary - UBIQCANCER (THE ROLE OF UBIQUITYLATION AND DEUBIQUITINATION ENZYMES IN CANCER)
In cancer research most of the studies are focusing on the mutations and aberrant expression of target genes. This has been resulted in identification of driver genes that are defined as being linked to oncogenesis. However, most of these proteins need to undergo post-translational modification to execute their proper functions. The main objective of our research is to understand landscape of post-translational modifications in different types of human diseases including chronic inflammation and cancer. This is analyzed by functional characterization of enzymes involved in post-translational modification (PTM) and their related substrate in a tissue/cell specific manner. We could by generating transgenic animals to define the specific gene function. Studying the function of the specific gene during progression of cancer which was followed after tumor induction in a specific organ helped us to identify diagnostic tools and proposing anti-cancer drug for diseases such skin cancer and liver cancer.
