Jews and Slavs in the Middle Ages: Interaction and Cross-Fertilization

Final Report Summary - JSMA (Jews and Slavs in the Middle Ages: Interaction and Cross-Fertilization)

The goal of the project was to remove interdisciplinary barriers and reveal Slavic and Jewish cultures as unique repositories of each other's lost texts and traditions. The findings contribute to two distinct but interconnected fields of medieval Judeo-Slavica: a) Judeo-Slavic literary contacts, and b) early East European Jewish history. Accordingly, the project presents integrative research regarding Jewish texts and traditions preserved uniquely in medieval Slavic sources, as well as a documentary history of Jews in Slavic lands in the Middle Ages as reflected in Jewish, Slavic, and other traditions.
