Accessible Personalised Services In PDTS for all

Description du projet

e-Accessibility of Public Digital Terminals

The objective of APSIS4all is to overcome the existing accessibility barriers faced by disabled people, older people and people who are not familiar with ICT when interacting with Public Digital Terminals (PDTs), such as Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs).

APSIS4all will increase user satisfaction, regardless of disability, age or digital literacy, by providing new, customised interaction modes, including adaptive interfaces and interaction through the user’s mobile, thus offering users a truly personalised service adapted to their needs and preferences.

Disability as a human rights issue and matter of law was confirmed in the UN CRPD. It aims to ensure that persons with disabilities enjoy human rights on an equal basis with others. The Convention is the first human rights treaty that the EC as a whole has confirmed (ratified). Given this, the EC will be bound by the Convention, and obligated to implement it within the scope of its competences. Recent surveys point to the rise in the number of people over the age of 65 worldwide. Many of these elderly people feel excluded from the outside world. This exclusion is heightened by their limitations in mobility, dexterity, and cognitive ability.Despite all EC's valuable initiatives, the MeAC - Measuring Progress of eAccessibility in Europe shows how people with special needs in Europe continue to be confronted with a number of barriers when using Public Digital Terminals (PDT). In many cases, there is no viable alternative method for accessing the service if a user cannot use the PDT. Inaccessibility of these terminals limits the individual's ability to fully participate in society. Our pilot aims to develop and validate solutions addressing the needs and preferences of people with disabilities, elderly people and people who are not familiar with ICT. Because of their relevance in daily life and complexity, our pilot focuses on the banking and transport sectors to provide truly personalised services, validated in real life settings, which facilitates the access of people with disabilities, elderly people and people who are not familiar with ICT to the banking and transport services and improve the experience of all users. The combination of multimodal interfaces, which are adapted to the user needs and preferences, and multichannel systems, such as the direct interaction with the PDT or the usage of mobile devices, ensure the provision of the most suitable way of interaction, thus leading to the user satisfaction.
