Exploitable results – Workshop report on the identification of research needs with regard to the Pressures and their Impact on Marine Ecosystems

Result description

The results from the workshop included a synthesis of knowledge gaps and needs for further research on the effects of pressures and impacts on the marine environment under MSFD. Results are presented firstly by theme (Biodiversity, Contaminants and nutrients, Disturbances, Commercially exploited fish and Hydrographical conditions) as general considerations followed by specific research needs and their justification/prioritisation.

Result description

The report reviews an extensive stakeholder consulation on the Science-Policy Interface (SPI) supporting Marine STrategy Framework Directive implementation. This included a survey targeting 436 stakeholders from 30 countries and a stakeholder consulation workshop. Stakeholder perspectives together with best practice were used to inform the final Proposal for an effective MSFD SPI Platform.

Result description

Proposal and recommendations for building a long-term SPI to support Marine Strategy Framework Directive implementation. It presents an archicteture for the proposed SPI and outlines its four key components in more detail, proposing key role, areas of activity and a Roadmap for step-wise implementation. This was informed by stakeholder consultation and best practise analysis.
