Objetivo The MIRTIC project goal is to respond to market expectation by developing and providing a new type of affordable low resolution IR sensor. This new line of IR sensors is designed to fill an unmet need in applications seeking to achieve maximum system efficiency in the everyday use of energy. The market trend is oriented on replacement of available single element IR sensor by a small 2 D array which enables an “understanding” of the scene by delivering not only temperature indication but also spatial information. This last information will improve efficiency of management system in charge of air cooling (HVAC), automatic lighting, security (access control, people counting), and health care (IR endoscopy). The project is divided in technology development part and application development part which are running in parallel.? Technological part: CEA/LETI will mainly develop an innovative vacuum Pixel Level Packaging technology which will give key advantage over the competitors for cost reduction. ULIS will be in charge of infrared algorithm development to integrate them on sensor chip as well as sensor architecture development in order to be able to suppress the shutter which is still used in uncooled IR imaging detector systems. ISD will develop electronics boards to operate the sensor.? Application part: application partners will be able to develop and test systems in order to react on sensor definition. This step involved ISD (Greece) for image synchronization development which can enable the use of multi-sensor heads in a same area without information overlapping, METAIO for enhanced reality management systems and Schneider Electric for home automation. Surveillance application with visible and infrared fusion could also be addressed by this development. As a result of this project, a new product line will be created for low cost sensor production and a set of new applications will be validated by partners.
