3Ps <br/>Plastic-Antibodies, Plasmonics and Photovoltaic-Cells: on-site screening of cancer biomarkers made possible

Final Report Summary - 3PS (3Ps Plastic-Antibodies, Plasmonics and Photovoltaic-Cells: on-site screening of cancer biomarkers made possible)

The Starting Grant 3P’s developed a device that combines Plastic-Antibodies, Plasmonics and Photovoltaic-Cells technologies, to be applied to on-site screening of cancer biomarkers. Several scientific progresses were made for this purpose including (i) the design of novel plastic antibodies for several cancer biomarkers; (ii) the enhancing of the efficiency of the cell, including the use of plasmonic particles; (iii) the development of an interface set-up combining plastic antibody and photovoltaic cell; (iv) an attempt to use alternative materials as electrode support to generate a low cost device; (v) and the combination of a smart organic dye that changes colour with the current produced by the photovoltaic cell, thereby allowing eye detection.

Overall, the final device is fully autonomous in terms of operation, being self-powered (by light), self-signalled (coloured event) and self-sustained (zero-energy requirements to be used; only sample is necessary).
