Noise pollution effects on auditory organ - pathogenesis, risk assessment, prevention and treatment

Objective

The mission of the proposal is to strengthen the international position of the Nofer Institute of Occupational Medicine in the field of occupational and environment-related hearing loss and shift the research and development potential towards advanced field of molecular biology and genetics.

The main project objective is to transfer the knowledge to the Institute and improve the skills of Institute's researchers to develop advanced, multidisciplinary animal and human studies on individual risk assessment and treatment of noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL).

The project will focus on:
-exploring the data from currently being performed at the Institute clinical and epidemiological research studies on occupational hearing loss in order to predict individual risk of hearing loss;
-advancing the study on the ototoxicity of organic solvents and its diagnostics; -developing advanced methods of molecular genetics to search for susceptibility genes for NIHL;
-developing advanced methods of molecular genetics to explore the methods of medical prevention and gene-based therapy of NIHL

The objectives will be implemented by recruitment to the Institute experienced researchers of different specialities (epidemiolgy, biophysics, molecular biology, neurochemistry, neurophysiology and audiology) and training own staff by different experienced researchers.

The project will result in development of long-lasting cooperation between the host organisation, fellow researchers and other institutions participating in the project. It will also contribute to organising the international postgraduate studies at the Institute, attracting young researchers to the field of occupational and environment-related hearing loss and hygienie, and developing their skills in the new areas.

In addition, NoiseHear will help in strengthening links with industry and policy-markers for improving the standards of protection of worker's hearing according to the new knowledge on individual risk factors for NIHL.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
