Software/Modelling Tool, Noise Footprint and Mapping Tool (NFMT), allows the creation of applicable sound maps: sound map is: a geographical representation of the Sound Pressure Level SPL (or Sound Exposure Level) due to a set of ships in a specified physical scenario. This level is the result of a weighted average over depth and frequency intervals: - Specified depth weighting (e.g., for species X) - Specified frequency weighting (e.g., for species X, or third octave band Y) - Averaged (or integrated) over a specified time period (e.g., 1 s, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 month, 1 year, 1 decade) -An sound map "footprint" can be produced for an individual vessel. A simplified and idealised environment is used and this may be of most relevance to the ship designer and modeller.
