Objective
Energy and Climate Policy are prominent areas for cooperation among BSEC member states, especially in the context of the security of the EU energy supply as well as emerging regional energy and emission markets. The Black Sea region is moving towards a new phase of development intending also to assimilate and participate in the ERA procedures. Moreover, in the most official manner (BSEC Energy Ministers in the Baku Declaration) the states of the region declared their preposition to support initiatives resulting in the convergence of national energy and climate policies.
The aim of PROMITHEAS-2 is to establish a network of research entities focusing on national and EU priorities in the aforementioned thematic areas and mobilizing the regional scientific potential. The project will:
- Define the most promising fields of collaboration in Energy and Climate Policy research among the countries of the region and with the EU;
- Identify suitable regional stakeholders and scientific potential for the establishment of a training and informative mechanism aimed at the widest possible diffusion of knowledge;
- Support the dialogue and strengthen the cooperation between Commission, EU Member and Associated Candidate States, and Third Partner Countries specifically in the fields of Energy and Climate Policy within the framework of ERA and FP6 (FP7) procedures.
These objectives will be achieved through a range of planned activities: website, one seminar (12 participants from the BSEC countries), three workshops (minimum 3x60 participants from three countries), one conference (minimum of 100 participants), four awards, one semi-annual bilingual (English - Russian) publication and three ad hoc visits. Particular attention will be paid to the identification of suitable institutions for the enlargement of the network with partners from all BSEC Member states. Sources of funding to support the activities of the network during and after this project will also be investigated.
