Objetivo
Relevant amounts of biological, agronomical and production data relative to olivicolture and olive oil production are currently being produced in various forms by different EC and national programs (Eclair AGRE 0013, Sprint RA3334, EEC regulations 1823/89 2565/90 etc.) in Italy, Spain and Greece. Although such data contain valuable information useful for commercial and environmental purposes, so far no value is added nor the information is centralised or made accessible to public or private bodies that are interested in it (associations or single producers, associations or single consumers, institutions or governmental agencies). These organisation constitutes a potential information market that encompasses the whole Mediterranean basin: EC as well as Turkey, the Middle East and the Maghreb.
The project proposes the establishment of an Information Centre located in Italy, which will centralise the available data coming from different sources, integrate and add value to it heavily using GIS technology, and commercially offer the derived information to producers and consumers in Italy, Spain and Greece, initially, allowing for a later geographical extension to other olive oil producing countries in the Mediterranean area.
