European research for the Latin-American Seafood industry

Objective

EUROLATSEA aims at supporting access to research and development activities and to new technologies for organisations (companies, including SMEs, research centres?) of the seafood industry (from capture to aquaculture to processing and distribution) in Latin-America. The project provides scientific and technological advice to companies and research centres on the basis of careful analysis of their innovation needs in the traceability of seafood, in the improvement of quality of exports, safeguard of consumer health. The project directly involves 5 reputed research organisations from Spain, Italy, Denmark, Chile and Ecuador and has a strong potential in helping to improve the quality of seafood processing in the Latin-American region. The project combines the expertise of scientific institutions with that of business support organisations (Industry Associations and companies from Europe and LA) in charge of contacting, informing and profiling organisations likely to be assisted by the project in different countries. Scientific advice will be provided through a series of workshops, one-to-one sessions and follow up providing links to the most adequate research organisations likely to give the response to the needs of organisations. Scientific advice will direct organisations to three possible scenarios: a) organisations needing research. EUROLATSEA will address the organisation to structure its research and innovation needs and establish the most appropriate research institution working on the issue the organisation is interested in. b) organisations needing research within the framework of FP6-FP7 activities. Therefore, EUROLATSEA will assist the organisation in setting up co-operation with that particular initiative, be it an IP or other type of project. c) organisations needing technology transfer. In this case, EUROLATSEA TT specialists will assist the organisation by setting the roadmap to upgrade their technological capacity.
