The Adoption of New Technological Arrays in the Production of Broadcast Television

Final Report Summary - ADAPT (The Adoption of New Technological Arrays in the Production of Broadcast Television)

This project explains how television used to be made. All the main processes of TV production in the analogue era (until around 2010) have been explained and demonstrated on video and are available on the project website. The project filmed a series of reconstructions of old TV production methods, using the original equipment operated by the professionals who once earned their living in TV. This method of 'hands on history' will allow future generations to understand the complex technologies and working processes that lie behind the simplest programmes in the archive. It shows how difficult it was to make TV before the digital era. It also shows how valuable it is to record how people work with machines, adapting their bodies and brains to the machines, and changing the machines to suit their needs.
