Objective
Current applied hygienic coatings are vulnerable to microbial surface colonisation: they may be reservoirs of bacterial and fungal contamination, and being on surfaces in food processing areas and in hospitals, can create danger to health. Moreover, nowadays, a more restrictive legislation is being introduced in the fields related to the safety and health of the sanitary places. Therefore, there is an urgent need for improvement in hygienic surfaces.
In this project, it is proposed a novel approach in order to avoid microbial surface colonisation in sanitary places. Thus, a high tech coating will be developed by means of the incorporation of reservoirs containing anti bacterial active ingredients (biocides), which will be released in a controlled way. The successful completion of the objectives of HYCORE project requires a multidisciplinary and open approach comprising the participation of a wide variety of partners with complementary expertise is required: ITECH and ARMINES have a wide experience in the field o f micro-encapsulation, polymer grafting and micro-gels. BARBOT, OIKOS, LIPPENS, URSAN are coatings manufacturers with vast experience in the field of the development and production of coatings for various applications.
Their expertise in this field will be complemented with the wide experience that CIDEMCO has on the development and characterization of coatings for the most diverse applications. THOR is a company dedicated to the manufacturing of biocides for several industrial sectors and with a vast knowledge regarding Active Ingredients for the most various applications. AQUA+TECH and ZIMTEC are companies that manufacture HighTech specialty Chemicals and microcapsules, which among other applications, are used for the controlled release of substances. PROTE C is a company dedicated to the cleaning of surfaces and application of coatings over several types of surfaces, counts on with a great experience in all the aspects related to the application of coatings.
