Lithuanian Network on Food Quality and Safety

Final Report Summary - LIT-NFQS (Lithuanian Network on Food Quality and Safety)

The aim of LIT-NFQS project was a specific support to Lithuania in the field of food safety, food quality control and knowledge-based integration into business and industry. The action of Specific Support Action (SSA) project was also directed to the identification, stimulation and development of priority fields of food quality, promotion of Lithuanian competence and support to researchers. The most important task was to establish Lithuanian food quality network and contribution to the integration of Lithuania into European food quality analysis network. The integration of research, education and industry was on the priority list of this project as well.

In general, the results of the project are far beyond the foreseen ones. The integration of the Lithuanian partners and their collaboration is well established, solid and of high quality. Several successful actions were launched together, such as, establishment of various platforms, new centres of excellence, novel education forms, improving instrumental basis, etc. not even imagined at the time of writing the proposal. An open and friendly working atmosphere allows sharing knowledge and facilities. Technology transfer and partners collaborations with industry and other research and public institutions significantly increased.

At the end of the project, the consortium is pleased to confirm that the LIT-NFQS network not only accomplished all planned tasks, but involved much more national and international partners (both academia and industry), and therefore it is a well functioning network, known and recognised for its expertise both in Lithuania and abroad. The network is open to everybody, several of its activities (e.g. trainings, technology transfer day) were attended by representative institutions from Estonia, Latvia, Italy, Sweden and other European countries. At the same time, collaborations with Germany, France, Ukraine, Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovenia have also started.

Lithuanian partners were actively collaborating in development of joint research interests, infrastructure, and usage of food resources. Several joint national and international proposals were submitted, being highly successful. At the same time, several Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) project ideas have been used for the submission of new FP7 projects in food analysis field. Main contacts for these proposals have already been established.
