Mid-Term Report Summary - CHMIFLUORS (Carbohydrate Mimesis using Fluorinated Sugars for Chemical Biology: From Reaction Design to Applications in Molecular Imaging)
Incredible progress has been made in understanding biological systems and the ways in which they can be manipulated by natural and non-natural products. Complex carbohydrates are remarkable in this regard, and underpin a vast number of processes. Since these molecules are essential in modulating molecular recognition, they offer great potential for therapeautic medicine. This project aims to design modified, fluorine containing carbohydrates and use their natural role in molecular communication to develop therapeautic medicines and agents for selective imaging of diseases.
