MUSE Imaging of the Cosmic Web – Ultra-Deep Observations of Intergalactic and Circumgalactic Gas
Final Report Summary - MUSICOS (MUSE Imaging of the Cosmic Web – Ultra-Deep Observations of Intergalactic and Circumgalactic Gas)
The MUSICOS project was devoted to the study of the high redshift universe with the MUSE ESO VLT instrument. It has produced the deepest spectroscopic observations ever performed, pushing galaxy detection and study to 3 or 4 magnitudes more than the current observations [Bacon et al 2017]. These observations have led to a breakthrough in our understanding of the high redshift universe:among them the discovery of the ubiquity of Lyman-alpha haloes around high redshift galaxies has allowed for the first time the study of the circum-galactic medium in emission [Wizotski et al. 2016, 2018; Leclercq et al. 2018], the study of low mass galaxies population [Drake et al. 2017, Feltre et al. 2018 ] and the detection of high redshift star forming galaxies beyond the limiting magnitude of the deepest HST images [Maseda et al. 2018].
