European and Developing Countries Ethics Partnership

Objective

The aim of this project is to develop capacity in research ethics review related to clinical research in developing countries. The project will organize twi training and capacity building workshops in two developing countries. Through these workshops the necessary infrastructure and networks will be prepared which will have the needed ethics review capacity for the recently launched European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP). Bioethicists from key European institutions will also be involved. The final workshop will develop an agenda for a sustainable ethics partnership which can be utilized by the EDCTP. The project is coordinated from the University of Bergen, Norway with the Centre for Science, Society and Citizenship in Rome, Italy as a partner. The partners have long experience as coordinators and participants in EU funded projects and the Bergen coordinator has long experience in conducting capacity building research ethics workshops in developing countries
