Objective
This grant will assist the professional reintegration of the applicant, encouraging her to continue her excellent career in Europe. The fund will enable of mobile researcher to become recognised expert in the field of gastrointestinal cancer (GI) research area. GI cancer is the most common form of cancer occurring in the EU. Advances are required both in early detection and therapy of GI cancers. The aim of this Marie Curie European Reintegration Grant is to continue investigations focusing on a central pathway in the development of GI cancer. Promising results obtained during Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship at the Academic Unit of Cancer Studies, University of Nottingham in the UK encourage carrying on research on this field in Poland, the long-term objective being to reduce GI cancer incidence within the EU, which is in line with the cancer strategy of the 6th Research Framework Programme.
Numerous data suggest that precursors of gastrin can contribute to neoplastic progression in GI tract. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR?) can promote cell differentiation and exert an antiproliferative action. The objective of this grant is to establish the relation between PPAR' receptors and gastrins in relation to apoptosis in the various hum a GI cancers. Targeting that link may be an adjunct to chemotherapeutic drugs in GI cancers. This grant allows continuing synergistic links between groups of researchers in Poland and the UK and additional members based within the EU.
Transferable skills obtained during Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship in the UK will provide the highest scientific level of investigations which are going to be done The proposed programme is relevant to the European Research Area as it will consolidate the research infrastructure between Poland, the UK, France and Denmark promoting further development of European science network and thus increasing competitiveness for future EU funding.
