Neuroinformatics

Objective

Neuroinformatics (NI) is a new research field devoted to the development of neuroscience data and knowledge base together with computational models and analytical tools for the sharing, integration, and analysis of experimental data and the advancements of theories of neural function. To develop this area a new 'International Neuroinformatics Coordinating Facility' (INCF) has been instigated through Global Science Forum within OECD. It was formed on Aug 1st, 2005 currently with 7 EU countries, Japan, Switzerland and the US as member states, but more countries are likely to join. INCF will have a secretariat consisting of an executive director, two associate directors and a staff of seven including programmers. The secretariat salaries and operation costs will be covered by contributions of each member state as specified in the understanding signed by each state. Within this SSA, the purpose is to grant support for an initiative to coordinate NI in a global perspective, which is the explicit goal of INCF. The objective of this proposal is to promote the INCF objectives by (1) organizing small workshops (5-15 experts) in different NI areas to be implemented. This can be databases concerned with a particular disease or neural function. The workshops will be held at the INCF secretariat. (2) Make an inventory of all NI resources available in Europe (scientific environments, training activities at PhD and postdoctoral level, different national or international funding schemes). (3) Analyse the most effective strategy to implement INCF objectives and promote an effective interaction with the national nodes. Each member state has agreed to make a national node to further the objectives of INCF. (4) Analyse the most efficient way to develop NI training programs both for students with a basic training in the IT area, and for those with a neuroscience training that need to develop NI skills to model e.g. a neural function at any level from the molecular to the behavioural'.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
