European focus on red biotechnology with China

Objective

The overall aim is to respond to the ever-growing scientific and commercial importance of China for the EU in the life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for the health field. The increasing interest for future resaerch collaboration will also build on the collaborative EU-China networks, good relations and achievements established during a previous EFBIC programme. The focus is on developing joint EU-China research and encouraging the participation of Chinese scientists in EU Framework Programme consortia and the participation of the European research scientists in the MOST (China Ministry of Science & Technology) research programmes, 863 and 973. It will be carried out by the EFB(European Federation of Biotechnology) in partnership with the CNCBD (China National Centre for Biotechnology Development) in close conjunction with and financial co-sponsorship of the European Commision and the MOST. The following actions are planned: *Three information and Partnering Fora that will provide information on topics of shared interest in EU framework and Chinese research programmes * Four research workshops on topics of urgent common interest will be organised on subjects chosen by teh SSMB board * Reciprocal exchanges and visits will enable Chinese scientists to travel to Europe in preparation for each Framework Programme Call for proposals, and EU and Chinese scientists to travel to each other's centres and conferences to detaile the basis for cooperation * Support for partner search and proposal writing will provide support and advice to European and Chinese who wish to enter into joint partnerships * Informationon and promotion of EU-China cooperation and funding opportunities will make available information on research activities and funding opportunities in EU and China and promote successful joint projects as positive examples'...
