The exheat microCHP turbine system

Objective

The significant contribution to CO2 and other emissions from buildings, including those used for dwellings, is widely recognised. As a result, there is a large market potential for combined heat and power systems that maximise the overall efficiency of generation at the point of use. The proposed project is aimed at demonstrating the market potential of a new microCHP system in real domestic-size polygeneration applications. The Exheat microCHP system is based on the close integration of a boiler with an externally heated microturbine. The system delivers approximately 5 kW of electrical power and 15kW heating. At these power levels, it can provide all of the energy requirements of a typical single dwelling, and it is therefore ideally suited for domestic or small buildings use. The system can be looked upon as a boiler that also generates electricity.
