Objective
The SORCER project is based on energy-efficient dwellings with a maximum use of sustainable energy in two communities. Hillerød (DK) and Apeldoorn (NL) are working on very ambitious projects. Cooperation shall increase the impact of the demonstration, an advantage for all stakeholders, and shall strengthen Europe to reduce dependence on energy imports, increase sustainability and stimulate growth and jobs. In Zuidbroek 1000 dwellings will be built to a standard 20% beyond new regulations.
The real estate developers have agreed to an additional package of measures that result in a reduction of electricity demand of 10%. A bio-gas plant will be installed in the WWTP facility in Zuidbroek to convert sewage sludge into energy. Heat from this plant (1.5 MWel, 3 MWth) and from bio-oil fired peak boilers will be used in the WWTP itself and the planned district heating system. The project will result in a reduction of fossil fuel demand of about 80% with respect to the Dutch reference situation.
