Objective
The Archimedes Wave Swing is a new and advanced technology transforming (ocean) wave energy into electrical power. In 2004, the technology was proven by testing a full-scale 2MW Pilot Plant in Portugal. These tests confirmed the operation of the main components and the energy production models. As a result, AWS Ocean Energy is confident that can deliver a commercial AWS wave energy generator within 3 years. The first step in this process is the construction, installation and testing of a pre-commercial demonstrator unit - the AWS-MKII. AWS is one of the few wave energy technologies that is almost ready for commercial application. Individual AWS systems are megawatt rated and will be deployed in large multi-MW parks. A 50 unit AWS park will be rated at 63MW and generate sufficient electricity to power 13,000 homes and avoiding the emission of 83,000 tonnes of greenhouse gasses annually.
