Analysis of the troposphere composition changes over Russia

Objective

The main aim of the project is to investigate the changes of the tropospheric composition over Russian midlatitudes. The project is based on the long-term measurements of the greenhouse and associated gases across Russia in train-based experiments TROICA.

Unique equipment complex, extended route (of about 8500 km) across a continent and the period of campaign (since 1995 to nowadays) give a unique opportunity to investigate a complex interactions of key tropospheric species under different conditions, to understand mechanisms of their variability, to evaluate an impact of air transport and diffusion and to refine the budget of the carbon compounds over Russia.

An application of isotopic analysis is planned to be compared with a trajectory approach to improve and understanding of greenhouse and associated gases regime. Among the compound atmospheric methane, carbon monoxide, tropospheric ozone, nitrogen oxides, some VOCs and atmospheric aerosol will be studied.

These measurements will be critically compares with transport-photochemical models application (like, TM5, MATCH, SHIMERE and LOTOS) and they also will be used for validation of the global emissions database.

Contribution of anthropogenic and natural sources of greenhouse and associated gases and aerosols will be estimated. The role of the separate mechanism of variability will also be studied.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
