Objective
The "FEE" project (Force énergétique par les enfants), (Force towards a better energy consumption by children) aims to stimulate the inhabitants of less favoured districts in inner town areas to take measures for decreasing energy and to work at their own behaviour, by working with children in the district (through the schools). We are using their persuasive power in regard to the energy consumption. The project stands for "Persuasive power of children towards energy consumption", project "FEE" (Force towards better energy consumption by children).
Description:
"Communication with the general public through the energy agency, especially in inner town areas and districts with a high population of immigrants, in order to improve one's knowledge and behaviour in regard to one's energy consumption and housing-conditions, is problematic. It is usually the same group of convinced persons that is reached. In collaboration with the teachers, the energy agency makes the children create an interactive exhibition about the Rational Use of Energy (RUE) and renewable energy sources (RES). The exhibition will be shown during "the Energy Week", a regional event, which arouses the necessary media interest for the children's work. We make links with the parents' energy consumption, with an emphasis on improved energy consumption. A less expensive invoice can give immediate results for the family. We are underlining the 'effect of recuperating costs', especially when it is a question of "private renovation of the house", isolation and other measures. Through an interactive website the children are also encouraged to carry out simple audits of their schools and homes and are able to participate in calculations of energy savings. A comparison with other domestic dwellings/schools can then be made. This would enable a better understanding of the need for energy savings and the ways in which some of the benefits can be derived".
"Through the contacts and the offered dynamics, we aim to reach all the other inhabitants of the district. If attention is drawn to the RUE in the first place, the renewable energy and ecological principles is also be communicated. The connection with projects for urban renewal and the participation of inhabitants is made through the local consultation structures. It is self-evident that this practice can be enlarged to other schools and other partners. Other themes concerning the durable development can be introduced in the follow-up activities. It is useful to develop a local agenda 21, as an extra, together with other district associations".
