Cross-border meteorological information service

Objetivo

eMeteoSrv was a feasibility study conducted under Action Line 1.1 of the eContent programme. The ultimate outcome of the project was the business plan for implementation and deployment of advanced Internet and GSM services based on data from meteorological and hydrological forecasts.

The services are primarily dedicated to Eastern Europe with possibility of further extension to the other European countries. The exhaustive use of GIS data and GSM location services would give rise to qualitatively new services improving the quality of life and security of European citizens.

An additional purpose of the study was to analyse the possibility of creating a cross-border B2B e-commerce platform aggregating weather data and selling it in the form of standard products to media companies like Internet portals, TV, radio and GSM content providers. The proposed added value is a result of combining this public sector information with private sector content resources and by aggregating data available at the regional or national level into cross-border information.

Examples of planned services to warn and inform of expected atmospheric or environmental phenomena are: a storm warning system for tourists, a system warning sailors of strengthening winds, a system informing drivers of heavy rain, sheet ice or snow storms.
