Objectif This proposal outlines a programme to develop a world-class expertise in Supply Chain Modelling and Optimisation in Ireland, based in University College Dublin (UCD). UCD is the largest university in Ireland, and has a very strong track record in EU Frame work Programmes, and particularly in Marie Curie TOK schemes. The productive interface of a knowledge economy such as Ireland involves basic research within the Universities and other research centres being linked to the needs of industry, both foreign owned and indigenous. We have identified within Irish industry a pressing need for supply chain expertise, a need that is mirrored throughout Europe. This proposal will provide UCD with the resources to make a strategic improvement by creating a viable centre of excellence for supply chain research. It is proposed that supply chain modelling and optimisation competencies be developed through a programme of visiting researchers working with staff from the National Institute of Technology Management (NITM) i n UCD, and secondments of UCD staff to expert partners. The knowledge transferred from visiting researchers will be absorbed by interdisciplinary research teams, and disseminated through teaching, industry liaison, academic conferences and publications. T his proposal envisages a unique combination of interdisciplinary researchers working to develop valuable expertise in supply chain modelling and optimisation throughout Europe. It also encompasses innovative technology transfer mechanisms for disseminating the knowledge to industry, particularly to SME's. While this proposal primarily contributes to the 6th Framework Programme by strengthening the scientific and technological bases of industry, it also promotes research activities in support of other EU policies. The proposal is a resubmission of an earlier proposal, which scored 82.0. The comments from reviewers have since been addressed, resulting in a very strong and timely proposal.
