Synthetic routes to useful phosphorus compounds

Objetivo

This project focuses on the transfer and integration of distinct but highly complementary areas of research competence in an SME and an academic Institute.
The Academic hosts expertise lies in the area of organolithium/sparteine chemistry. The Industry partners expertise lies in the area of the development of homogeneous catalytic routes to chiral molecules, which can lead to significant manufacturing cost-reductions e.g. in pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. The aim is to build a long-term strategic partnership: for the SME its core discovery platform can be enhanced greatly to increase its competitiveness, whereas the academic host will also learn from the industry partner how to work in a commercial environment. In this project, 2 scientists from the SME (one of whom will be newly recruited from across Europe with special attention given to New Member States), will work in the University to acquire specific expertise and know-how on organolithium/sparteine chemistry.
In parallel, the seconded scientists will impart their industrial expertise, project management skills and commercial working experience to the academic host. There will also be the opportunity for them to transfer some specific High Throughput Experimentation (HTE) expertise to the University. After this secondment they will return to integrate the acquired knowledge back to the company.
In order to enhance a mutual knowledge transfer, the Academic host group leader will work at the SME, especially near the end of the project, to ensure that the knowledge acquired by the 2 scientists will be successfully integrated into the company setting.
The project addresses various major strategic objectives of the European Commission - most notably the empowerment of world-class research and development in SMEs - and the enhancement of awareness of exploitation potential among scientists as well as the ability to link science with innovation.
