Doing disability research: Equal lives for equal people

Objective

The overall purpose of the project is to transfer knowledge to the staff of the National Institute for the Study of Learning Difficulties, Trinity College, so that research staff can become skilled in implementing and investigating the efficacy of an inclusive research paradigm for people with intellectual disability within the Republic of Ireland.
There are five sub objectives each being implemented as a separate phases. Specifically to:
1) To develop implement and appraise inclusive research training courses for people with learning disabilities, family members and professionals.
2) To develop oral histories of people with learning disabilities and the experience of family members who have a son or daughter with a disability (such family members can be independent of the person with the learning disability).
3) To develop research teams that have membership of people with learning disabilities and family members.
4) To develop the skills in writing research reports in plain English and presenting them in a manner that can be easily understood by people with learning disabilities.
