Strengthening co-operation between European Research Area and NIS

Objective

The aim of the project is to strengthen international R&D co-operation with the Newly Independent States (NIS) and opening of the European Research Area to the NIS partners through a number of assistive measures and coherent articulation between the Commission, NIS partners and experienced mentors from Member States.

Articulation is targeted at more active involvement of NIS partners into the EU Seventh Framework Programme and related innovation programmes such as EUREKA and INTAS, which represent primary, yet under exploited measures for better scientific co-operation between NIS and EU member states.

The project has defined the following specific objectives:

Definition of research priorities in the selected NIS for enhanced co-operation with the Member States.
- Conducting benchmarking studies in each partner country to select two FP7 priority areas with the strongest S &T potential in each country
- Mapping the selected S &T sectors in each partner country with an aim to establish sector analyses.

Developing and promoting the participation of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova in the activities of the EU Seventh Framework Programme, but also complementary programmes such as EUREKA and INTAS.
- Organizing targeted workshops on FP7, R &D project preparation and project management.
- Providing at least 40 personal consultations to NIS scientific community.

Networking of national and community international S/T co-operation activities.
- Strengthening the capacity of local National Information Points (NIP) through a series of targeted workshops on FP7.

Building transregional RTD network with organisations from Russia, Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus.
- Organizing a major brokerage event aiming at promoting the R & D project ideas and R & D results from the selected NIS.
- Facilitating partner search from NIS scientific community to EU and vice versa, at least 100 partner searches delivered to NIS and EU.
