Reinforcement of human and material capacities of the Textile Technology Research Centre in Albania

Objective

This projects intent is to strengthen the human and material capacities of the Textile Department of the Polytechnic University of Tirana (UPT) and to enhance its collaboration with the Albanian textile industry.

To reinforce the human capacities, visiting lecturers from the Textile Departments of Ghent University and TEI Piraeus will give courses to the Albanian teaching staff and researchers in English, which will afterwards be translated into Albanian.

Further, PhD students and a post-doctoral researcher of UPT will be sent to Ghent for a period of three months to carry out specific research experiments and receive specialised training. To support the improvement of the materials resources, equipment for quality control of textiles will be purchased, as well as didactic equipment, books and magazines.

Further the process of accreditation of the Physical Mechanical and Chemical Laboratory of Textiles by an international accreditation body will be initiated. The industry-university collaboration will be enhanced through the organisation of technology transfer activities, such as workshops, seminars and a conference.

With the help of the textile research centres from Ghent and Piraeus, workshops and seminars will be organised for representatives of the textile industry on topics such as Quality Management, Quick Response, Quality Control, Carpet Manufacturing and Fire Behaviour, CAD/CAM, etc.. At the end of the project a conference will be organised for the technology transfer of textile research results from the university to the industry, with key-note lectures from Ghent and Piraeus.

Another objective is the networking of UPT with EU research centres to insure continued cooperation with Textile Universities in the EU, to have the possibility to carry out joint research and activities in the future, by gaining access to the existing network of scientific research in the textile technological field, AUTEX (Association of Universities for Textil.
