Objective
GLOBAL VIEW is a pioneer project. It is aimed to be a first step for railway international co-operation, bringing to the international scene jointly the European Railway Undertakings, Supply Industry and Academia to work together with their international counterparts. GLOBAL VIEW targets specific emerging regions relevant for the European Railway stakeholders, as being China, India, South Africa and Russia.
The end result should be to pave the way for an Integrated International Railway Research Area (IRR A). To get there, GLOBAL VIEW proposes an approach based on two principle axes:
- Dissemination of railway research project from FP5 and FP6 and learn from similar activities done so far within the identified emerging regions.
- Identification of needs and priorities fort he joint international cooperation on railway research in view of FP7.
GLOBAL VIEW will build an international Network of Excellence through 4 workshops in emerging markets and a real life visit (field trip) to key research sites Europe with support of communication website and a contact database.
These activities will be tailored to the needs of the countries areas focusing, as for example for China is signalling and long distance freight; for India is infrastructure and signalling; for South Africa is long distance freight and Galileo; and for Russia is safety and modularity.
GLOBAL VIEW will provide a significant contribution to the implementation of the European Commissionâ's objectives on international cooperation and support European industry in strengthening their global market position.
