Dive into Science

Objective

The "Researchers' Night 2006" that will take place on the 22nd of September will materialize in Galicia in the project "Dive into Science" (DIS). In the line of the "Researchers' Night", the main goal of DIS is to submerge people and researchers in a festive atmosphere where research shows its funniest face.

To achieve this objective, the activities proposed will be held in a typical coastal environment: a fish market, a traditional schooner, diving pools, etc. The objectives of the project are:

- Show research as an attractive activity that is within anybody's reach. Public will be able to enjoy water sports like diving that are also used to make research. They will have the opportunity to participate in contests and games related to science and enjoy the artistic side of science through music, photography and fireworks.

- Show that scientists are "normal" people. Researchers will take active part in the activities as peer fellows with the public and they will chat with the public. The scientists will also show other skills different from those related to science. In the three cities, researchers and public will mingle during cocktails, role games, on board parties and food-tasting events, etc.

- Multipliying effect. This first edition of the 'Researchers ' Night' in Galicia will pave the way for further awareness events in the region with the researcher's direct involvement. To optimize the resources and obtain the maximum impact from the initiative, activities will take place in the three most representative Galician cities for the maritime sector: Vigo, A Coruña and Celeiro. Researchers from both public and private entities will participate in the project.
