Objective
Five European groups from five countries with an excellent reputation of clinical, clinical-experimental and basic research in the field of human adult and embryonic stem cells will jointly form over 48 months a regular Marie Curie conference with training courses. This will help to realize a stable European forum for regenerative medicine, with the focus on neuronal stem cell research. These meetings will bring stem cell researchers, biotechnology companies and financing sources together.
The meetings will allow to discuss latest developments within in vivo and vitro stem cell differentiation, and will give the opportunity to the participants to learn the latest news in the areas of how to stimulate endogenous stem cells, how to modulate signalling in stem cells, how to modify these signals for standardized differentiation and how to translate this information together with the biotech industry as a translational process. Additionally, a practical lab course on the most important experimental technologies will be offered. Active and outstanding students and young post-doc scientists can send their application for 20 positions of the practical lab. The participants will also be able to perform their own experiments, in small groups, under the supervision of qualified and experienced staff. Special attention will be given to practical aspects and various pitfalls, as well as basic design of technical procedures.
The course is thought to teach the scientist to write an experimental protocol as a combination of their own skills and the methods they are learning during the lab course. The RegMedTeach programme will enable and encourage young scientists to plan and execute their own experiments in the field of neuronal stem cell technology. The conference will have a long-term impact on the still fragmented European regenerative medicine and stem cell environment.
