Charting future trends in European innovation policy

Objective

Since 2000, the European Trend Chart on Innovation (comprising the policy monitoring network, the European Innovation Scoreboard and the policy workshops) has been monitoring and appraising innovation policy developments in Europe. The current project will build on and extend the wealth of information and experience the consortium partners have amassed during this six-year period, in delivering a high-quality service to European, national and regional innovation stakeholders and policymakers. With a view to value for money and avoiding duplication of effort, a strong interaction will be maintained with other PRO INNO initiatives, Europe Innova and the DG RTD ERAWATCH exercise through the participation of a number of the partners in these complementary initiatives.

The consortium partners have proposed an extended range of services covering the regional level, increased cross-cutting analysis of information contained in the future PRO INNO knowledge base, and reinforced quality control and dissemination procedures with respect to the current Trend Chart initiative. The partners aim to improve the efficiency of innovation policy design and appraisal through supporting, at EU level, the ongoing monitoring of progress of the Lisbon goal with respect to innovation; and at national and regional level by offering a rich source of good practice examples and codified policy intelligence facilitating transnational learning.

The management team consists of highly experienced individuals working in five of the leading European specialist institutes and one highly regarded US partner. A strong network of national correspondents (staff of the partners or specific sub-contractors) is committed to working with the consortium, the vast majority being involved in the current Trend Chart network.
