Responding to Development Challenges in China Through Research and Assessment of Suitable Industrial Protocol in the Processing of Fruits and Vegetables

Objective

The People's Republic of China has made significant efforts to develop economic agreements with the European Community. This has also long been a priority for the European Community. The proposed project directly responds to this agenda. The general objective of this project is to strengthen the European Community's partnership with China. This will be supported through collaborative efforts to address China's developmental challenges pertaining to processing chains for fruits and vegetables. The first phase will focus on the research and analysis of current Chinese policies for agro-food production with respect to fruits and vegetables. In the second phase, the research and analysis of standards practiced in China will be conducted with specific support provided to 15 Chinese processing companies. The third phase will consist of extrapolating the project team's findings to the sector and developing recommendations applicable to the sector as a whole. The fourth and final phase will involve the dissemination and the promotion of the findings both in Europe and China with strong focus on developing future research collaborative activities.'
