European Network for the Advancement of Behavioural Economics

Objective

During the last two decades a growing number of empirical studies have revealed widespread

violations of key assumptions that underlie conventional economic theory, violations which result in

outcomes that are markedly different from those generated by the conventional theory. This has led to

a search for psychological principles that complement or, if necessary, replace these conventional

assumptions in order to improve the explanatory power of economic models. Important empirical and

theoretical issues are, however, still unresolved.

The proposed network aims to advance this emerging field of behavioural economics in Europe and

provide high quality training and a transfer of knowledge to young researchers just entering the field.

The network will facilitate the development of a critical mass of the brightest young researchers by

concentrating the currently highly fragmented expertise in Europe. It will bring together economists and

psychologists, and foster the collaboration between theoretical and empirical researchers.

The network will enrich our understanding of economic behaviour through (1) the generation of robust

evidence on the psychological determinants of economic behaviour, (2) the incorporation of these

behavioural principles into rigorous economic models, and (3) the elaboration and empirical testing of

the economic implications of these models. The network will launch projects in the following three

areas: incentives, dynamic choice, and institutions and aggregate outcomes of social interaction.

These areas represent fundamental issues which economic theory aims to address, and there is

evidence from both psychology and experimental economics that these are particularly promising lines

of research at this moment. The network comprises leading centres of research in Europe. In addition,

the network will be strengthened by the participation of two teams from the United States, including

some of the most eminent...

Keywords

Project’s keywords as indicated by the project coordinator. Not to be confused with the EuroSciVoc taxonomy (Fields of science)

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
