European Macromolecular Crystallography Infrastructure Network 2

Objective

Macromolecular X-ray crystallography can only flourish in Europe if the means and methods that are being developed at our centres of excellence, are disseminated efficiently. We propose to promote this process, and to facilitate access to research infrastructures, by organising three different types of activities in an EU spanning Network. (1) Method based schools aimed at bringing together young scientists will be an excellent instrument for spreading expert knowledge and creating new, informal networks between institutes throughout the EU. (2) Teaching workshops will allow young scientists to be coached by specialists in the latest techniques and methods in a hands-on environment, and form a vital addition to the larger-scale schools. This will spread good practice, common protocols and collaboration. (3) Integration workshops will promote the development of new ideas and procedures by bringing together experts in the field. Further collaborations between these expert groups will be promoted by travel-funds for short time visits. All these activities will be organised and directed in co-ordination meetings of participants of the proposed Network.
