Objective
This project aims to integrate the Micro and Nano Technology (MNT) research capabilities in Europe into the form of a distributed platform for research and development. This will be primarily achieved through a strategic Alliance between the five major Eur opean Microelectronics and MNT research Centers and through the creation of a common technology portfolio. The Alliance will pass through Organisational and Strategic agreements, Exchange of people and of knowledge and will lead to a definition of common r oadmaps. This will be the aim of the Three Networking activities of the present project: " N1. "Create the environment and legal framework to allow the Integration of Activities" which will aim to significantly lower the barriers between the participant or ganisations and especially the legal ones and those related to the lack of personal relationship; " N2. "Prepare the Integration" which will aim to build a common view on the future developments; " N3. "Schedule the exploitation" which will aim to organ ize the operational phase of the Alliance: global management, external collaboration, dissemination of the Alliance concept. In parallel and in order to both enhance the Alliance platform capabilities and in order to encourage the interoperability and the creation of a common technology portfolio three Joint Research Activities will be undertaken. They will all aim to develop new added functionalities to Integrated circuits and to adapt the interfaces between existing European IC foundries and newly introd uced nano and micro- technology research activities. " JRA1 will concentrate on RF functionalities; " JRA2 will focus on sensors added on Integrated circuits; " JRA3 will intend to develop new integration bricks of general interest for any possible added functionality.
