Objetivo The SecurePhone project aims at developing a new mobile communication system infrastructure which will ensure in a friendly way the mutual identification of mobile phone speakers enabling them to deal legally binding e-contracts by a mobile phone call. The existing communication infrastructure, lacking strong users identification, cannot be used for legally binding transactions. The solution proposed by this project is to realise an innovative prototypal 3G/B3G enabled PDA enhanced with a "biometric recogniser" in order to permit to users to mutually recognise each other and securely authenticate. The SecurePhone will then allow users to securely exchange and modify audio, image and/or text files, and finally to e-sign them with legal value, all during a phone call. In particular the SecurePhone will permit to e-sign voice statements on the fly. Thanks to the SecurePhone the device legitimate user will be authenticated by comparing several of his/her biometrical features measured in non- intrusive way with registration data previously stored on the device SIM card.A choice for non- intrusive, psychologically neutral biometric techniques has been made, so as to avoid the problems of rejection and discomfort that affect the social use of other methods. Biometrically recognised users will access the device's built-in peculiar and innovative e-signing facilities. The system will enable users, without needing to enterany extra numeric PIN, to electronically sign and send data, concurrently with voice, during a normal phone call, using PKI infrastructure resident on their device SIM, thus getting rid of an extra smart card reader. In particular, users will be given the opportunity to choose between transmitting encoded audio file or text files, produced through automatic speech-to-text conversion.
