Objective
AUBADE is a research project that will result in a wearable platform, which will ubiquitously monitor and recognise the emotional state of its users in real time, using signals obtained from their face. AUBADE will be used in a variety of healthcare applications mainly in the neurology and psychology field. Those include facial pain, facial muscle disorders, speech disorders, depression, and stress assessment. The wearable platform will consist of a mask that will collect and transmit wirelessly signals obtained from multiple appropriate-placed biosensors on the face of the user (EMG, heart rate variability, skin conductivity and respiration rate) to the centralised system.
AUBADE will develop new and efficient methods for processing multi-sensorial signals based on sensor management and data fusion techniques. The Intelligent Emotion Recognition module through its classification sum-module will combine data from the user's health record along with the features extracted from the various sensors and with the aid of various intelligent classification techniques will detect the psychological state of the user. Furthermore, AUBADE proposes the implementation of a real-time 3-Dfacial representation module, which will animate the face of the specific user and his/her muscle movements. A state of the art analysis will be performed including the technologies and standards that will be used inAUBADE.
More specifically, the analysis will relate to:
(a) biosensors,
(b) wearable systems,
(c) signal processing,
(d) Decision support systems,
(e) communication standards,
(f) security mechanisms, and
(g) Facial Muscle movement representation.
The system will be extensively tested and clinically validated, following all relevant ethical directives, before being released to the public.
