Promotion of footwear and components industry participation in the Sixth Framework Programme (SHOES 5000)

Objective

The main objective of the present proposal is to complement the FP6 instruments and to stimulate, encourage and facilitate

the participation of FOOTWEAR and FOOTWEAR COMPONENTS manufacturer SMEs, small research teams,

research centres, as well as those organisations from the Candidate Countries in the activities of the priority thematic areas

related, in Integrated Projects (IPs) and Networks of Excellence (NoEs). The specific objectives of this ETI proposal are:

The stimulation of technological innovation by supporting activities concerning the gathering, analysis and

dissemination of information on S&T developments, applications and markets

The participation of SMEs/SME Groupings in FP6, particularly in Integrated Projects and Networks of Excellence

of potential interest for the shoe and auxiliary industry.

The activities would be (initially) mainly related to Priority 3 objectives NMP-2002-3.4.3.1-3 - The creation of "knowledge

communities ands Priority 2 objectives IST-2002-2.3.3.1 - Products and service engineering 2010".

The European footwear industry lacks today competitiveness to bring its manufacturing position in the EU in balance with

its fashion influence around the world. Europe as a manufacturing cluster looses attractiveness. The industry keeps a world

influence but this kind of industry needs an IP to support a breakthrough strategy for its future. SMES are the main actors

of the European Shoe Industry and need to participate under different mechanisms to undertake the results of IPs and to

provide feedback to NoE, orienting long-term research towards specific needs.

The project measurable objectives are:

Number of Technology audits: 100

SMEs incorporated to IPs: 100

Number of Take-up actions implemented: 10

Financial resources mobilised: 25M euros

Number of European Research project submitted:

o CRAFT and Collective: 10

o STREP: 5

o SME incorporated: 75
