Objective
The purpose of the project is to organise, develop and operate a Network with organisations from the EU and candidate countries, involved in decommissioning activities. The aims are to encourage continuous improvement in capability and effectiveness that should lead to increased competitiveness, and to cluster and co-ordinate projects that were started under earlier FP's, aiding to improve the added value of these projects. A Steering Group (SG) manages the CND with experts from European organisations involved in decommissioning. The SG drives forward principally at increasing and transferring knowledge and facilitating training and experience exchange particularly so that organisations derive maximum benefit from previous or current EC funded projects. The SG organises general and topical meetings, seminars/workshops with participation of experts and representatives of organisations interested in contributing to the activities of thence. The SG also manages the activities that are developed in specific working groups. An Advisory Group with senior experts of European organisations involved in decommissioning provides general guidance to the programme of work, reviews questions of general interest and the orientations of future work, considers specific problems and evaluates whether actions should be defined in order to develop additional/new programmes or to cluster or co-ordinate specific tasks. To support the activities, the CND will encompass and take maximum benefit of tools that were developed within former FP's: the operational web site of the running Thematic Network on Decommissioning (TND), the database on technical and cost aspects of decommissioning, the EC web site on decommissioning, the information database created for a compendium on decommissioning, the supporting structure for the promotion of specific training sessions, and the working groups that were created within the running TND.'
