Transfer of knowledge in design of porous catalysts

Objetivo

Catalytic materials are the key tools for paving routes to discoveries and innovations with the strongest social impact. Porous substances represent the most important class of catalysts and catalyst supports. The area of competence to be developed by the project in the Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, in Cracow, involves design, synthesis and optimization of porous materials based on zeolites, modified layered silicates and ordered mesoporous structures. Control of their texture, grain morphology and insertion of active sites, will be targeted at application in processes of fine chemicals synthesis and abatement of air pollutants. A progressive connection between theoretical simulation modelling of porous structures and catalyst design will be also pursued. The number of recruited fellows will include 6 experienced and 4 more experienced researchers. The transfer of knowledge will be further enhanced by the research fellowships of own staff members, 5 experienced and 4 more experienced researchers, in 5 partner institutions from Germany, Sweden, UK and Spain. The aim of the experienced researchers will be to develop the research aspects not, as yet, pursued in the host institution which include preparation of mesoporou s materials using block co-polymer templates, advanced NMR investigations, in situ Raman studies, theoretical simulation. The major role of the more experienced researchers will be the formulation of new questions and identification of problems to be solve d, propagation of new concepts and ideas emerging from the research carried out within the project, and dissemination of knowledge. The ToK project will strengthen the established international position of the host Institute, integrate it into the European Research Area, enhance its future competitiveness, and increase the collaboration of the Institute with other scientific centres.
