Objective
It is indispensable to have an innovation policy specifically targeting to the SMEs in order to realize the economic policy objectives of the European Union especially the aim to have a knowledge-based society by the year 2010 provided that SMEs are infl uential in job creation and research and development activities. As a candidate country, Turkey is particularly important with its large population and with its potential to innovate through 196.793 SMEs. Although the Turkish SMEs have the potential to i nnovate, they are not efficient in research and development activities and there is lack of cooperation between SMEs, universities and research and science centres. The proposed project aims to increase awareness and knowledge of the SMEs regarding Sixth Framework Programme and to assist them to improve their research and development capabilities by organizing training courses and workshops in different cities of Turkey with the participation of experts. These courses will be open to the participants from Turkey and CEEC and target to reach total 1820 experts; 1360 from SMEs and 460 from universities. Moreover, the consortium will assist SMEs in Turkey to find partners from the different member states, encourage them to involve ongoing projects under the FP6 by a competition; provide consultancy services on bureaucratic procedures and preparing EU contracts at every step; help them in technical issues such as preparation of proposals accessing scientific knowledge by establishing the links between SMEs - Research&Science Centers, SMEs - Universities, SMEs - Business Circles. The end result targeted is to make a meaningful contribution to the creation European Research Area by realizing inclusion of SMEs especially from Turkey. As a result of the co operation of Turkish companies in the international level with the European companies, universities and research centers, a value added will emerge in the EU through inventions.
