Objective
Based upon the Rio de Janeiro summit, and the need of a stronger cooperation between the 2 continents in the area of health, it was decided to launch a Platform on health with EU and LAC partners to help consolidate regional education and research capac ities, to innovate technologies and implement, wherever required better standardisation in health technologies and methodologies. After Bangkok 2000 (World Conference on Health Research) it was clear that Health Research Systems (either national, regional or global) should be based upon shared values and principles taking into account technological innovation diagnosis of emerging/neglected diseases; the results of these workshops will feed back the planning and priorities of the network a major delivera ble of this SSA. The main expected results are related to research and policy: a) establishment of the Platform on Health within the 6th Framework Programme objectives b)a system of informative data mainly related to Public Health Policies, new tools for i mproving quality and equity in Primary safe water and sanitation and poverty-related neglected and emerging communicable diseases. c)networking with other stakeholders d)dissemination of health information through ALCUEHEALTH website e)implementation of n ew RD projects.
